October 4th, 2016

Dear Neighbors,

Tonight is National Night Out, a night where neighbors come together in solidarity to combat neighborhood crime. Our office will be joining several National Night Out events in support of this movement. Tonight, I ask that you all turn on your porch lights, say hello to your neighbors, and do your part to keep the neighborhood safe and friendly. Also, be sure to thank Jo Alexander by sending her a quick note here. She graciously stepped up to be our District 10 National Night Out coordinator this year and has done an amazing job.

This week marks the first round of community meetings to review the proposals for the 2017-2022 Bond Project. I cannot stress enough that community input matters when it comes to a bond program. For example, a proposal was submitted for contributing funds for the relocation of Capitol Park Little League to McAllister Park. When I met with the Friends of McAllister Park, cycling group S.T.O.R.M., and other park users last week, it was clear that they did not support a project that disrupted McAllister Park's natural trail system. As a result, our office, the Parks Department, and TCI are in the process of finding the little league a different place to build their fields.

If you want to learn more about the proposed projects for parks, streets, drainage, facilities, or neighborhood improvements, I encourage you to attend the various meetings and be a part of this process. These meetings will occur until December, will all be hosted at the Central Library downtown, and are completely open to the public. We've included the full meeting schedule in this newsletter for your reference.

We've included a list of known fall neighborhood association meetings in this newsletter. If your neighborhood would like us to advertise an upcoming meeting, please email us at District10@sanantonio.gov and we will include the information in our next edition.

Thank you for staying actively involved in our community and for your strong support of District 10.

Sincerely,

Mike Gallagher
City Councilman District 10

Travelers: Office of the City Clerk Hosts Passport Day on Saturday, Oct. 22

The City of San Antonio Office of the City Clerk will host a Passport Day from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22 at the Municipal Archives & Records Facility, 719 S. Santa Rosa. This Passport Day provides the opportunity to apply for or renew a passport on a Saturday.

The Office of the City Clerk offers these tips for international travelers:
  • Check the expiration date on your current passports,as some European countries will not accept passports within six months of their expiration date.
  • The quickest renewal times occur between September and December, according to the U.S. Department of State Passport Services.
  • The Passport Book costs $110 for adults and is valid for 10 years. Passports for children 15 years old and younger cost $80 and are valid for five years. All legal guardians must consent to the passport and appear in person with the child during the application process.
  • For travelers who prefer not to venture beyond Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean or Bermuda are eligible for a passport card, which costs $30 and allows faster border-crossing by land and sea, although it cannot be used for international air travel.
  • The Office of the City Clerk offers passport photographs at an additional cost and free parking at the Santa Rosa location. The Vital Records Office, located in the same building, will also be open during the same hours for individuals or families needing a certified birth certificate.

If you are unable to attend Passport Day, the Office of the City Clerk can assist individuals applying for a passport or needing a certified birth certificate from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Walk-ins are always welcome.
