Happy Halloween, folks! Halloween is
a fantastic opportunity to get out and meet your neighbors while
getting some exercise. I want to encourage y'all to stay
safe and use your best judgement while Trick-or-Treating. Don't allow your child to
Trick-or-Treat alone and please wear reflective clothing to ensure
you're being seen by motor vehicles. Parents and grandparents, Metro
Health encourages you to make sure your child or grandchild has a
healthy meal before Trick-or-Treating and to use a smaller bag for
November 2nd. The election will take place on Tuesday, November 6th.
If you have any questions about the three propositions on the ballot,
please visit the City's website. Check your county election website for voting information
and polling locations.

The City of San Antonio's Neighborhood and
Housing Services Department (NHSD) is developing a new policy to
tackle displacement and eviction causes. As part of the departments'
outreach endeavors for this policy, they would love to hear from our
neighbors on the issues that impact the lives of those suffering
from/or at-rick of displacement to help us allocate the 2019 FY
Risk-Mitigation Fund. The new policy is intended to combine a
preemptive and re-housing approaches to end displacement and provide
a safe and stable housing for families and individuals across the
City. Help San Antonio refine how we as a city address the
sudden loss of housing by taking the survey here.

Northeast Neighborhood Alliance Meeting
November 19th, 2018 - 10303 Tool
The City of San Antonio and Council District 10
team packed their bags and attended the annual conference of Texas
Chapter of the American Planning Association held in Galveston, TX
October 17-19th. City staffers Jacob Floyd, Planning Coordinator, and
Heather Yost, Sr. Planner (both District 10 residents!) and District
10 staffer Rebecca Podowski, Sr. Policy Advisor, led a breakout
session on the successes and lessons learned from the first five
years of the Northeast Corridor Revitalization Initiative (NEC).
The NEC, started back in 2014, is a strategic
plan outlining the goals for the Perrin Beitel-Nacogdoches corridor.
Their presentation included an overview of the different funding
mechanisms now in place to aide in business development and corridor
enhancements, public safety initiatives, and the various city
policies originating from the revitalization efforts. We congratulate
Jacob, Heather, and Rebecca on their opportunity to present to
representatives from other Texas cities, and hope to see our model
replicated in other corridors across Texas.
Johnson High School Safe
Last week, I attended Johnson High School's Safe
Driving Event. It was a fantastic way to engage teenagers while
informing them of the dangers of drinking and operating a vehicle.
Take a look at the video above to see me attempt to drive while
wearing "beer goggles" - needless to say, it did not go
well. Remember folks: Drink. Drive. Go to jail.
Education Nights at The Public
are an exclusive performance for youth, ages 12-18, to attend a
production in the Russell Hill Rogers Theater at The San Pedro
Playhouse. These performances provide access to educational learning
experiences in the creative arts and live theater. Also, performances
foster positive youth development and individual personal growth
through increased self-expression, social engagement and exposure to
potential career opportunities. Education nights are made possible
through the generosity of foundations and corporations.
substation Citizens on Patrol classes are 1-time, 4-hr classes.
Please bring a photo ID when attending. All necessary
applications will be filled out at the beginning of each class and
photos will be taken for a complimentary COP ID card.
